Reconnect with who you are ment to be and write your Obituary

One evening in 2004 I decided to write my own obituary. Yes, I know that it is not so common, but I did it. The cause of it all was that I really wanted to dive deep into myself, and find out what I really wanted with my life. For many it may seem like an egotistical, and perhaps a fatalistic thing to do, but for me it was an absolute necessity. I could of course have continued my life as usual, without diving into the deepest of myself, and many people live their lives without being in contact with the person they really are or want to be, but for me it was not the enough. I wanted more out of life. I wanted to know if I was on the way to realize a dream or if I just was fussing around.

When you write an obituary, you never write about yourself. You write about others. You write about what this person has meant, and how this person was. As you can see, I had to write about me - from another person’s perspective. I promise you, when you do such a thing, you can not be merciful. The truth must be presented no matter how painful it may be. Fortunately, people who are writing obituaries do clear away the worst and highlights the best qualities in a person. In my case I would write an obituary of arthur taubo, myself.

The difference between my obituary writing and the ”common” form, was that I now had the opportunity to write about what arthur had done for other people, and what he had accomplished during his life. And as you see, it is to start with the endgoal in mind. To end up with a great finale, one that I could be satisfied with, I had to go through many things in my life. I got in touch with my inner feelings and longings. I got to meet all the dregs, injustice and selfish thoughts. My obituary is now resting on the desktop of my computer. I am happy with it. From time to time I take a look at it to see if I can still stand by what I wrote. I actually do that even if it was written more than seven years ago. My obituary has become a wizard who holds me responsible for my actions. Because I have written it, I can not do all the things that attracts me here or there. I’m actually going to have to take long detours to do things. Things are sometimes much slower this way. Many times it would have been nice to take a shortcut, but then I know I will not end up with the obituary I’ve written, the one that I really want that should be written. As a normal person, I’m not always 100% faithful to it, but I know where I want to go and that is very satisfying. I believe that others will be happy that I actually wrote it.

Finally.Find aquiet place, a place where you can be alone. Decide to write your own obituary. It will give you great insight in who you are and wish to be. It will give you clarity about what to do and what changes you have to do in your life to really get to where your heart wants to be. Remember, no matter what your past has been - your future is clean and bright. You can now decide what the content should be. Write your own obituary, and live life the way it was intended that it should be for you. I am convinced that you will thank yourself for it once you’ve done it. Do it today, do it now.
